Student Visa
Many applicants focus exclusively on their university admission and underestimate what the embassy actually evaluates. In practice, additional factors play a decisive role that have nothing to do with the study place itself. A rejection can affect not only the current application but permanently complicate future procedures.

Changelog
2026
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research is currently developing a comprehensive reform of the BAföG system. The objective is to modernize and improve financial support for students and trainees in vocational education.
BAföG is an established funding instrument through which the federal government has supported young people in their studies and vocational training for many years. The planned reform aims to adapt the system to current requirements and life circumstances.
The modernization addresses aspects such as funding amounts, eligibility criteria, and performance requirements. Students from both Germany and abroad should monitor ongoing developments and their potential impact on their funding.
On June 11, 2026, the Bundestag addresses proposals on family and education policy. The Green Party faction has submitted several initiatives, including motions to strengthen families and ensure equal educational opportunities regardless of income.
A key focus is the expansion of BAföG support and a planned study start assistance program. These measures aim to relieve financial pressure on young people during economic challenges and improve access to education.
The debate is handled by the Committee for Education, Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, as well as by the Committee for Research. These policy developments may influence Germany's attractiveness for international students.
